If you have lived in Reston for more than a couple of years, you have a mental map of where to go on a Wednesday night in August. That map is now out of date. Between March and May of this year, four restaurants opened inside RTC Next, and the summer concert calendar quietly rearranged itself around three separate plazas instead of one.
The point of this post is small and specific: for the first summer in a while, RTC Next, Lake Anne Plaza, and Reston Station are all programmed on different nights of the same week. You can build a full week of evenings without repeating a location, and without leaving Reston. That was not true last August.
The corridor that filled in this spring
RTC Next is the newer expansion side of Reston Town Center, near the intersection of Sunset Hills Road and Town Center Parkway. For a long stretch it read as buildings-in-search-of-tenants. That changed fast this year.
Toastique opened first, on March 7, at 11900 Inspiration Street, running 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Paris Baguette followed on April 15 in a 3,150 square foot space across from the AC Hotel. Kusshi Sushi officially opened in April 2026 in a prime location—right at the base of the new Fannie Mae building, filling the middle tier between grab-and-go and reservation-only. Clarity, the Vienna restaurant with a RAMMY shelf, opened its second location around May 1 with a menu that carries fan favorites like French onion soup, foie gras, and steaks alongside a new smoked wagyu cheeseburger.
Four openings in ten weeks, all within a two-block walk of each other. That is the story most residents have half-caught in passing and not yet strung together.

The Wednesday and Saturday rhythm at Lake Anne
Lake Anne Plaza is still doing what Lake Anne Plaza does. The distinction this year is that it is doing it on a predictable schedule that pairs cleanly with the new dinner options a mile away.
The 2026 Sunset Concert Series runs Wednesday evenings on the plaza at 1609 Washington Plaza North, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., free. If you are reading this in the first week of August, three concerts remain:
- Wednesday, August 5 — Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet
- Wednesday, August 19 — Texas Chainsaw Horns
- Wednesday, August 26 — Four Star Combo
Saturdays belong to the market. The Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne runs on Saturdays from April 25 through November 21, from 8 a.m. to noon at 1609 Washington Plaza N. Fairfax County notes parking along North Shore Drive and a nearby lot, though the experience itself is built around walking the plaza rather than driving up to it.
Two other Lake Anne notes worth putting on the calendar. The Reston Museum's "Art of Play" exhibit by Andrew Black runs at the Jo Ann Rose Gallery through August 14, with a reception on July 26 already behind us. And the Cardboard Boat Regatta is a Lake Anne tradition worth watching for if the Reston Museum posts a firm 2026 date; last year's race was August 9.
The third node most residents forget
Ask ten Restonians where the summer concerts are, and most will say Lake Anne. That answer is a summer or two out of date. There are three concert series running in parallel right now, presented by the Reston Community Center in cooperation with MSE Productions.
Beyond the Wednesday Sunset Concerts at Lake Anne, Reston Station hosts Fab Fridays Summerbration Concerts on the plaza at 1900 Metro Plaza. Halley Rise, across from Wegmans at 12010 Sunrise Valley Drive, hosts the Take A Break Concert Series on Thursday evenings. Three nights, three plazas, three different crowds. If you have only ever gone to Lake Anne, you are missing two-thirds of the free live music happening within Reston this summer.
That is the shift the RTC Next openings unlock. A summer Thursday can now be dinner at Kusshi or Clarity, then a short walk to catch the tail end of a Take A Break set at Halley Rise. A Wednesday can be Paris Baguette in the late afternoon, then over to Lake Anne for the Sunset Concert. A Friday leans naturally toward Reston Station. The three-node evening is not a marketing idea. It is what the calendar and the new tenant mix actually produce.
What's coming that will change the map again
The corridor is not finished. A few tenants still to come will meaningfully change how the RTC/Reston Row area functions.
Plans are underway to open a second location of Dogfish Head Alehouse this fall, after the management group acquired the restaurant's only location in Gaithersburg, Maryland, earlier this year. Over the next year, Clarity, Dogfish Head and the recently opened Toastique will also be joined in the expansion of Reston Town Center by Paris Baguette, the Italian restaurant and deli Grazie Nonna and Grazie Grazie, Livewell Animal Hospitals and Yunnan by Potomac Noodle House. Grazie Nonna is bringing Italian-American classics like eggplant parmigiana and spicy vodka sauce, with a more casual deli sibling next door. Yunnan by Potomac Noodle House will run southwest Chinese plates that do not really exist elsewhere in Reston, including wood ear mushroom and mint salad and night-market-style barbecue.
Half a mile east near Wiehle Metro, Reston Row is the other lease story to track. Comstock and Clyde's Restaurant Group announced Ebbitt House at 1860 Reston Row Plaza, describing it as the first expansion tied to Old Ebbitt Grill, with a large indoor dining room and patio. Noku Sushi has signed for the ground-floor retail at 1800 Reston Row Plaza. Both are targeting 2026, though as anyone who has watched a restaurant timeline in Northern Virginia knows, targets slip.
The takeaway is not that Reston got a few new restaurants. It is that the RTC Next expansion has quietly become the missing middle of the local dining scene, and the concert calendar around it has fanned out from one plaza to three.
A late-August week in Reston, mapped
If you want to test the circuit before Labor Day, here is a workable week using only what's open right now:
- Wednesday, August 5 — Early dinner at Clarity or Paris Baguette, then Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet at Lake Anne Plaza, 7:30 p.m.
- Thursday, August 6 — Take A Break Concert at Halley Rise, dinner at any of the nearby Reston Town Center anchors on the way home.
- Friday, August 7 — Fab Fridays at Reston Station, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Bring a chair.
- Saturday, August 8 — Reston Farmers Market at Lake Anne, 8 a.m. to noon. Coffee on the plaza after.
- Wednesday, August 19 — Texas Chainsaw Horns at Lake Anne; try Kusshi Sushi first if you have not been yet.
- Wednesday, August 26 — Four Star Combo closes out the Sunset Concert Series.
Why this matters if you have been here a while
There is a version of this post that ends with a broad statement about Reston's identity. That is not the useful ending. The useful ending is this: the everyday texture of living here has shifted in the past six months in a way that does not show up on the neighborhood's Wikipedia page or on the portal listings. New tenants, new concert nodes, new Wednesday-Thursday-Friday options. The people who notice first are the ones who already live here and pay attention to what opens on which corner.
