Huntley Meadows Park connects you to treasured homes and habitats. The park is home to a nationally significant historic house, majestic forests, wildflower-speckled meadows, and vast wetlands bursting with life. Some of the best wildlife watching in the Washington metropolitan area is here. There are several access points for this park. The one that I explored is off Telegraph Road in Alexandria.
The park has signs filled with information about the history and habitats of the land. One interesting fact that I saw was that if left alone, these meadows would eventually revert to an oak/hickory forest. Mowing allows bluebirds, field sparrows, prairie warblers, monarch butterflies, and sun-loving wildflowers to thrive in Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria, VA.

About a 45-minute round-trip walk at a normal pace to get to the marsh area from the start of the trail and back.
Pros: paved cement pathway, beautiful views, quiet, easy walk or jog (about 2 miles round trip), option to make your walk longer with offshoot trails. Lots of wildlife. Plenty of parking. Benches to sit on throughout the trail.
Cons: not many waste cans around the trail, and no restrooms either.
